About Dr Philip

I have been working in full-time private practice as a colorectal and general surgeon in Auckland since 1995. I trained in Auckland before spending a number of years in the UK and Australia. I later undertook an advanced 2 year Colorectal Fellowship in Melbourne and Auckland.

The majority of my practice now is in colorectal surgery although I still maintain some aspects of general surgery such as laparoscopic herniae and pilonidal disease.

Colorectal surgery includes:

  • Anal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulas
  • Pelvic floor problems causing difficulty in defaecation or faecal incontinence
  • Colorectal diseases such as bowel cancer and diverticular disease.

Most of my colonic surgery is done laparoscopically, which means using telescopes. This gives significantly better recovery after surgery with no compromise in operative standards, especially with bowel cancer.
