Specialist Training

Dr Dennett trained in general surgery in Invercargill, Dunedin and Auckland. After completing her general surgery training she undertook post-fellowship training in colorectal surgery with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand in Melbourne and Sydney. She is a fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. 

About Elizabeth Dennett

Dr Dennett works as a specialist colorectal surgeon at Wakefield Hospital and the Clinical Director at Te Aho o Te Kahu (Cancer Control Agency). 

In addition to her clinical practice she is an associate professor in surgery at Otago University, the past chair of the NZ national training board for general surgery and past chair Board in General Surgery, RACS. She is a current college examiner in general surgery. 

She is a member of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and NZ; Section of Colorectal Surgery, RACS; International Anal Neoplasia Society; NZ Association of General Surgeons; NZ Medical Association; and member of the Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Advisory Committee (PTAC), PHARMAC. 

She was the first New Zealand female general surgeon appointed to the court of examiners Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
